To the reader: the following article is intended for the use of the bachelor, although it may have other applications as well.
We at Gentlemen, Inc. have determined that there are essentially three types of men in the world. While they all differ in various ways, each one can be classified in one of the following categories. We have compiled this guide so that our gentleman readers may better understand themselves, and furthermore, what type the wish to be.
Type A
The Type A male (sometimes known as the 'alpha' male) is most often an athletic, handsome gentleman. They excel at sport, and are often found at social events of all sorts. The Type A knows how to get what he wants, and will conquer any opposition that stands in his way. Furthermore, the Type A is a self-assured one, and is often found in a position of command or authority, which suits his natural inclinations. With women, the Type A is bold and direct. While this approach does not always work, it often does because of the self-assurance and confidence the Type A naturally exudes. A few famous Type A males include Captain James T. Kirk (pictured above), James Bond, and Mick Jagger.
Type B
The Type B male is essentially the polar opposite of the Type A male. Where the Type A is brash and bold, the Type B is quiet and reserved. They often have difficulty speaking to women (or even with social interactions in general) and as a result have to use different methods than the Type A would employ to attract a lady. They often find creative, yet unobtrusive ways to get the attentions of a lady. Despite these social shortcomings, the Type B is often more intelligent than the Type A and often has an artistic inclination, which many women appreciate. A few notable Type B males include Scott Pilgrim, musician/geek Jonathan Coulton, and any main cast member of The Big Bang Theory.
Type C
The Type C is something of an anomaly. He is best exemplified in Mr. Bill Murray. The Type C displays characteristics of both the Type A and the Type B. While he may be socially awkward or clumsy, the Type C does not display the fear responses inherent in the Type B, particularly when it comes to women. While his methods are unpredictable, they often get results. In addition, the Type C has the ability to get along amicably with both the Type A and Type B. The Type C is neither 'nerd' nor 'jock'. In fact, it could be said that he flouts the very terms, and thus he is worthy of being in a class of his own.

Can I tell you how much I love the Scott Pilgrim picture? Bravo, good sir. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I shamelessly ripped the Pilgrim moniker off of the movie, I do see myself as a Type C. I'm not a huge toolbag, but around women I don't have a history of feeling awkward. I guess that lands me smack in the middle.
~Shane
Let's not be too hasty, Shane. While many Type A's are toolbags, as you put it, there are also a number of them who are just simple, all-around good guys. Unfortunately, their self-assurance often makes them seem somewhat irritating to others.
DeleteMine is what I've always considered to be a Type A guy-- he's handsome, self assured, competitive, athletic and BOSSY. But I guess he's more of what you would call a C, because despite having all of those alpha-male traits, he's too smart for his own good and he's very nerdy. He's an engineer and a jock.
ReplyDeleteNice post. :)
i loved this post! although there should be a seperate section for all the idiots who dont fit into any of the categories you described above ;)
ReplyDeleteanyway, i absolutely love your blog! /follows/
